What is vinyl decking?
Vinyl decking is a low maintenance waterproof decking option constructed of PVC (polyvinyl chloride). The 2 most common types of vinyl decking are: PVC Sheet Membranes (like Duradek™ vinyl membranes) and Cellular PVC (sometimes mistaken for composite decking). PVC Membranes are an attractive, textured sheet vinyl applied to a solid surface (like untreated plywood) and provide a water-tight seal to keep the space below dry – perfect for elevated decks or flat roof decks over living space. Cellular PVC decking consists of boards (like traditional slotted wood decks) allowing water to pass through the deck boards to the area below.

How do you clean Duradek™?
It is best to clean your Duradek surface at least 4 times a year to maintain its appearance. You can use warm water with a mild soap and scrub it with a soft bristle brush. For more difficult stains you can dilute some household cleaner. Be sure not to let any chemicals sit on the vinyl surface and to rinse well with fresh water. See Duradek Care and Cleaning page for details.

I don’t want to replace my deck, but the appearance has faded. What can I do?
While the appearance of your vinyl deck may fade over time, it is still doing its primary purpose of waterproofing and is expected to do so for many years to come. Coating the vinyl is a good option that will allow you take advantage of the long duration of waterproof performance and still freshen up the look. See our maintenance page for coating instructions.
