Pedestal Systems

Floating Deck Systems Using Pedestals

Floating roof deck assemblies using pedestals to support the wear surface can be an ideal low-maintenance deck on high traffic areas when properly installed. A reliable, roofing-approved waterproof membrane may be the most essential component to extend the lifetime performance for flat roof deck assemblies designed as floating or pedestal systems.

Pedestal Systems are well suited for flat roof deck projects when slope needs to be applied or adjusted for proper water routing or drainage. The pedestals can be set at different heights to achieve the required slope. They can rest on the waterproofing membrane without the need to create a puncture to stay in place and the wear surface simply rests on top. This offers the advantage of easy replacement of the wear surface or access to any maintenance needs below such as clearing drains.

Types of Pedestals in Floating Roof Deck Systems

There are two main types of Pedestals used with the Plazadek System assembly (available through various manufacturers).

Adjustable Roof Paver Pedestals

Adjustable Roof Paver Pedestals allow the wear surface to be installed dead flat, even when the existing deck slop is greater than ¼ inch in 12 inches.

Fixed Roof Paver Pedestals

Fixed Roof Paver Pedestals are low-profile systems that cannot be adjusted for height. They are predominantly used with concrete pavers on deck slopes of ¼ inch in 12 inches.
