Store Summer Items
Pack away summer furniture, planters, and accessories to protect them from the elements. Fabric items should be stored to prevent damage, while planters should be moved as they can collect leaves and debris, leading to spots that will be hard to clean come spring.

Remove Leaves Promptly
Enjoy the beautiful autumn leaves, but keep them off your deck! Clean fallen leaves and organic debris regularly to prevent stains and make spring cleaning easier. Some leaves and debris can contain tannins that can permanently stain your deck.

Clean Your Deck
Don’t neglect your deck in the fall! A thorough cleaning now will help avoid a major clean-up later. Look for spills, dirt, and airborne pollutants that may have settled on your deck. Use a Duradek’s vinyl deck cleaner and scrub with a soft brush. Rinse thoroughly to remove any residue.

Winter Vinyl Deck Tips

Only Use Plastic Snow Shovels
Shoveling snow off your deck is easy with a plastic shovel. Avoid shovels with metal edges, as they may puncture your vinyl membrane. While Duradek is a reliable waterproofing solution, any punctures or tears can allow moisture to penetrate the structure. Repairs are possible, but unnoticed damage over time can lead to larger issues.

Use De-Icing Agents
Duradek’s textured surface provides slip resistance, but like most surfaces, ice can make it slippery . You can safely use various snow and ice melting solutions, including rock salt, chemical de-icers, and coarse kitty litter for traction. Just avoid fine, clumping cat litter to prevent a muddy mess.

Rinse Well When the Season Changes
To keep your deck looking great, wash it with soap and water after winter, ensuring a thorough rinse to remove any chemical residue from de-icers or cleaners. While de-icing chemicals are safe when applied, any residue left on the surface can be baked into the vinyl by the sun, potentially damaging its appearance.

Seasonal Cleaning
Keep your deck in top shape by cleaning it four times a year using Duradek Vinyl Deck Cleaner, available from Duradek and on Amazon.

Gentle Scrubbing
Use a soft-bristled broom or brush for cleaning. A stiff brush may be necessary for tough stains, but avoid excessive pressure to protect the embossed pattern of your vinyl. The Duradek cleaner mixed with warm water and allowed to sit for 15 minutes to loosen dirt and debris, will make the job easier.

Rinse Thoroughly
Make sure to rinse off all cleaning residue completely. If you’ve used rock salt or ice-melting chemicals in winter, clean your deck well before the sun can bake these substances into the surface.

Summer Vinyl Deck Tips

Enjoy the sunshine
Relax and soak up the sun on your Duradek outdoor living space – Don’t forget the sunscreen! Duradek vinyl is equipped with built-in UV inhibitors, ensuring durability against sun damage. At night, string up lights to keep enjoying your deck well into the evening.

Shade and Comfort
Prefer to avoid direct sunlight? Sunshades and umbrellas can help you enjoy your deck in the hottest and brightest of days. Take care when moving heavy umbrella bases to avoid scratching or tearing of the membrane.

Kid-Friendly Adventures
Your deck is the perfect place for kids to engage in games, crafts, and more! Spills are easy to clean up and the smooth vinyl surface eliminates the risk of splinters, making it a safer place for little ones. If you have really small ones, make sure proper safety gates are installed near stairs. Like all outdoor surfaces in the summer, vinyl can get hot. Ensure that proper footwear is worn on hot days.

Poolside Enjoyment
For your poolside deck, keep the surface clean of debris to maintain optimal non-slip resistance and to prevent pooling water around drains. Additionally, make sure to store poolside chemicals away from the deck surface and rinse off any spilled chemicals immediately to avoid damage.

BBQ Gatherings
Clean grease and sauce spills promptly with mild soap and water and use grill mats under BBQs for extra protection.
Keeping a basic cleaning kit readily available is also a good idea if the food product is known for staining. i.e… mustard
Do not use rubber mats as they are not compatible with vinyl. Polypropylene ones are recommended.
